A Case of Primary Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Testis

Abstract
An 18 year old Korean boy with the chief complaint of a mass in the scrotum and paraplegia with progessing pitting edema on the lower body has been presented. He first noticed scrotal swelling and a small hard mass in the scrotum after a trauma at 8 months prior to admission. Autopsy revealed a adult fist size mass in the scrotum, and multiple irregular masses on superior mediastium, posterior surface of left auricle, thoracic spines, right perirenal area, and left forearm, etc.
Microscopic study of sections revealed that the rhabdomyosarcoma was composed of spindle cells and round or elongated cells, nuclei of which were irregular in size and shape and markedly hyperchromatic. Many of these nuclei were surrounded by eosinophilic cytoplasm and many mitotic figures were observed. These findings suggest the masses may be composed of the so called strap and tadpole shaped cells seen in rhabdomyosarcoma, although no definite cross striations could be seen.
